- ➤ Texas A&M International University students, faculty, staff and alumni will join a beautification service event across Laredo on March 22, 2025. Volunteers will check in at the Student Center before riding to parks like Haynes Recreation Center and Arturo Benavides Park — receiving 40 community service hours and lunch. - ➤ Downtown Laredo will hold multiple events on Saturday, March 15. The El Centro de Laredo Farmers Market takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Outlet Shoppes at 1600 Water St.—followed by the St. Patrick’s Downtown Bar Crawl at 6 p.m. KGNS News
- ➤ Iglesia Cristiana Misericordia in Laredo began serving the community in March 1995 and is marking 30 years of service on March 16 with keynote speeches by church founders and leaders at its facility on Loop 20 and Del Mar - services start at 10 a.m. KGNS News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Laredo first responders treated 10 people hurt in a bus accident on a highway in Mexico after the driver fell asleep and hit a barrier—each patient was taken to one of two hospitals and is in stable condition. KGNS News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On March 13 the Laredo Police Department gave out steering wheel locks to Kia and Hyundai owners from 2011 to 2021 to help stop a social media trend that encourages car theft—more distributions are planned while supplies last. KGNS News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ U.S. Customs and Border Protection will close the soft-sided processing facility in South Laredo on U.S. 83 along with other sites because of low apprehensions, saving between $5 and $30 million per month per facility—resources will be redirected to other priorities. KGNS News
- ➤ The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) ended the lease for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services office on Hillside Road in Laredo as it cuts funding to federal entities—on March 13 a U.S. judge ordered Elon Musk and DOGE to turn over records regarding federal spending cuts. KGNS News
- ➤ Rio Bravo will begin a street improvement project on Friday, March 14 with over $2 million allocated to fix multiple roads—Web County Commissioner Jesse Gonzalez asks community members to be patient while crews resurface and stripe streets for safer driving. KGNS News
