COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ KGNS is collecting prom clothes for students in Laredo ISD and United ISD to help them get ready for prom, graduation and other special events. People can drop off new or gently used dresses, suits, shoes, ties and accessories at the KGNS studio at 222 Bob Bullock Loop on Tuesday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—items must be in good condition. - ➤ KGNS will serve as a drop-off location for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 26 at its studios at 222 Bob Bullock Loop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. + The DEA and SCAN will partner on the event to collect expired medications so residents can dispose of them safely. KGNS News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A pickup truck overturned along Hwy 83 south of Rio Bravo just before 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, causing one minor injury — the cause is still under investigation. KGNS News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jose Francisco Mendoza, a former Zapata County commissioner and president of the Chamber of Commerce, was arrested and booked into Webb County Jail—he faces four felony charges including misapplication of fiduciary property, theft, and record tampering. KGNS News
- ➤ A 16-year-old boy was arrested after robbing a bakery on April 13 at the 3000 block of Santa Maria Avenue—he admitted the crime following identification from video images and a tip from Crime Stoppers and is now held at Webb County Youth Village. KGNS News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Two local titleholders, Denay Hernandez and Giselle Gonzalez, earned their Miss Southwest USA crowns and will represent the region by competing at the Miss Texas USA and Miss Texas Teen USA pageants in Houston from May 1–3. They are following rigorous fitness and interview training to prepare for the state stage. KGNS News

HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Families of inmates at the Rio Grande GEO Processing Center claim that despite the facility saying the carbon monoxide issue was fixed, one inmate continues to suffer severe symptoms — including blurred vision and chest pain—after exposure that began on April 11, with U.S. Marshals and fire officials detecting elevated levels on April 14 and conducting treatment on April 17. Families say the care provided, which included Tylenol, is not enough, and they worry more evaluation is needed. KGNS News
