COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Foxy, a 9-year-old small shepherd mix at Laredo Animal Protective Society, is looking for a new home after nearly two years in the shelter—she is fully vaccinated, spayed, and loves walks and car rides, while visitors can meet her Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 2500 Gonzalez Street.  KGNS News

CRIME NEWS

  • Laredo police are searching for a man allegedly involved in a theft on May 6 near the 2200 block of East Okane Street—his photo was shared to help with identification.  KGNS News
  • Laredo Police are asking for help finding Zaragoza Martinez, a 61-year-old man (5 feet 8 inches, 190 pounds with short black and graying hair, a mustache and a large mole under his left eye) who was last seen March 1 in the 2900 block of North Arkansas.  KGNS News
  • On May 14, Laredo South Border Patrol agents apprehended Juan Angel Lara, an undocumented migrant linked to the MS-13 gang with a lengthy criminal record who tried to cross the Rio Grande illegally—he was handed over to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office for felony re-entry charges.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Webb County officials opened the online application process for nonprofit organizations seeking third-party funding. Eligible groups must submit a typed application in a sealed envelope that is time-stamped by the County Clerk's Office by 5:00 p.m. on June 12 — late submissions will not be accepted.  KGNS News
  • Laredo City Council certified the bond election results on Wednesday—over 80% of voters opposed the proposals—and will hold workshops later to explore alternative funding options for public safety, public health, street improvements and senior housing.  KGNS News
  • City of Laredo officials remind residents to stay safe during the ongoing heat by using public libraries, recreation centers, and city halls — all of which are open during regular business hours — to cool down and stay hydrated.  KGNS News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ricardo Medina, a Laredo construction worker with 15 years on the job, said he takes water breaks today to beat the rising heat—even though a state bill removed required breaks in 2023. Local fire officials urge everyone to wear lightweight clothing and find shade to avoid heat stroke.  KGNS News
  • The Laredo Fire Department is advising residents to wear light-colored clothing, seek shade, and drink plenty of water as triple-digit temperatures are expected for the next few days — officials urge everyone, especially workers and the elderly, to watch for signs of heat stroke and exhaustion.  KGNS News
