- ➤ Juan Carlos Sanchez Gaytan, a 37-year-old Mexican man wanted for a major drug case linked to cartel activities, was returned from Mexico on August 12th—he will be moved to Laredo soon to face federal charges. KGNS News

- ➤ Five TAMIU alumni were featured in the Texas Folklore Society book Gather ’Round: Gatherings in Texas and the Southwest for their essays on traditions like backyard barbecues and rural life—It will be available for pre-order before its Fall/Winter release and includes contributions from over 30 authors. - ➤ Laredo Little Theatre is inviting actors for its upcoming October production of The Play That Goes Wrong with auditions set for today and tomorrow at 6 p.m.—the casting call seeks eight roles, including two for women, as the show will run over two weekends starting Oct. 16. KGNS News

- ➤ Texas A&M International University is reforming its Mariachi Internacional group with new director John David Spillane II—a longtime Laredoan with 36 years of teaching experience—and a Fall course that welcomes all students to learn mariachi music. - ➤ The City of Laredo is continuing work on Phase 1 of its Water Line Replacement Project to upgrade water service reliability and infrastructure — crews are working along Logan Avenue from East San José Street to Saunders Avenue and on East Kearney Street with new work along San Eduardo Avenue between Gonzalez and Jefferson. This project is part of a larger plan to modernize the city’s water system. KGNS News
- ➤ After a protest outside the Webb County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Martin Cuellar defended his investigation of alleged poor conditions at Freedom Ranch Animal Rescue Center by stating that his multiple visits found the animals got proper care and that the district attorney agreed with his findings. Laredo Animal Care Services has taken in 29 dogs surrendered over several days and is now providing them shelter, food and medical attention while the City Council prepares to review the case.
