COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Laredo residents remembered the impact of 9/11 yesterday during a memorial event that brought together families, veterans, and local officials to reflect on the tragedy—personal stories and moments of silence honored those lost.  KGNS News

CULTURE NEWS

  • TAMIU (in partnership with the Laredo Film Society) will host a free film screening and Q&A session featuring HBO award-winning filmmaker Sharon Arteaga on Sept. 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the TAMIU Student Center Auditorium.  Texas A&M International University
  • Laredo residents will attend the annual Fiestas Patrias celebration on Sept. 13 from 7:30 p.m. to midnight at Pan American Courts Complex where the Gabriela Mendoza Garcia Ballet Folklorico will perform live and a grito contest will take place. The Mini-Con Collectors Market will open at 6 p.m. offering vintage collectibles, toys and food trucks.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas A&M International University’s Small Business Development Center will offer a Small Business Management Program for entrepreneurs starting Tuesday, October 8. Classes run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m.—registration ends October 1, and participants will earn a certificate after completing 10 hybrid courses taught by professionals.  Texas A&M International University
  • Laredo ISD partnered with SCAN to train employees in mental health services as part of a grant-funded program during National Suicide Prevention month. Over 150 employees completed the training by September 2 and all staff will complete the course by the start of the 2028-29 school year—classes are offered in English and Spanish at the IT Computer Lab each Wednesday.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On September 11th at 5:51 p.m., Judge Palomo met with the Women’s Commission to share his personal journey and outline his programs—aimed at strengthening community service.  KGNS News
  • CBP and LPD updated that Killam at Mines Rd remains closed after an incident—officials said the road will reopen after safety checks and advised motorists to use alternate routes until then.  KGNS News

HEALTH NEWS

  • TAMIU’s third SANE Boot Camp ended on September 11—nurses practiced trauma-informed care and forensic skills during a simulated trial at the 49th District Court. The three-day training will strengthen local nurses' ability to support sexual assault survivors.  Texas A&M International University
