COMMUNITY NEWS

  • PILLAR will host a Halloween Spooktacular on October 4 to raise funds for anti-bullying and suicide prevention, aiming to broaden access to important community services. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. — at Embassy Suites on 110 Calle Del Norte — and will feature food, local vendors, games, and a costume contest.  KGNS News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On September 25, Webb County Treasurer Raul Reyes shared a video showing his home flooded by heavy rains that quickly turned a small puddle into several inches of water—emphasizing the rapid impact of the storm.  KGNS News
  • Heavy rainfall that began last night around 10:30 p.m. caused flooding, road closures and stalled cars as a 300 foot radio tower — originally built in the 1950s for 1490AM—fell near Zapata Highway and Wooster.  KGNS News
  • Thursday morning rainfall caused sinkholes and flooding across Laredo—utility crews repaired the sinkhole at Saunders and Meadow near Laredo Medical Center and the city cemetery and began work at intersections including Mier and Malinche and San Agustin at Constantinople.  KGNS News

CULTURE NEWS

  • TAMIU’s annual art exhibit Parameters will open Monday, Sept. 29 at the CFPA Gallery and will run until Oct. 9. A closing reception and awards ceremony will be held on Oct. 9 from 5—7 p.m. and admission is free.  Texas A&M International University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UISD said a teacher at the J.B. Alexander campus has been placed on administrative leave after a Facebook post alleged he got into a verbal altercation with a 14-year-old student and others — the district is investigating the matter — to address the incident.  KGNS News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On September 25, 2025, KGNS viewers showed that Laredo recorded its peak rainfall, with reports indicating heavy downpours across the city — the record was noted as the highest so far. Local weather officials are reviewing the data for further analysis.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Laredo will formally swear in Judge Eduardo 'Wayo' Davila, Jr. as Municipal Court Judge for Position 2 on Tuesday, September 30 at 12:00 noon at 4610 Maher Ave—he was appointed by City Council in August after a voter-approved Charter amendment in November.  LaredoBuzz
  • City of Laredo announced that the cemetery is closed because heavy rain made the grounds muddy on September 25 and it will reopen today from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.—the administration office stays open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for questions.  KGNS News
