While in Colombia on a mission trip, a Laredo man confirmed his blind son is safe after a deadly earthquake hit near Medellín, and his son's missionary group quickly evacuated an orphanage field with plans to finish work tomorrow, reunite in Bogotá and return to Laredo.

UISD campuses opened their doors to thousands of students as classes began in the new academic year, with enrollment underway across multiple campuses in Laredo.
