  • Laredo will host a Governor's Small Business Summit on June 11, bringing together local small business owners and entrepreneurs to connect with state and federal resource partners. Registration will open three months before the event.  KGNS News

  • City officials announced that the Laredo mural project will move to a new location — a decision that increases the project’s cost. Details on revised plans and the timeline are expected soon.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A teacher at Cigarroa Middle School was named the first KGNS+ Teacher of the Month for 2026 on Thursday, Jan. 15, recognizing exceptional local educational achievement in Laredo.  KGNS News
  • TAMIU is offering paid Student Research Assistant roles for undergraduate research this spring. Applicants must work 15 hours a week for 10 weeks and apply via Workday before positions fill (applications close Feb. 4).  Texas A&M International University
  • AEP Foundation donated $50,000 to Laredo College Fun Fest yesterday & the funds will support a planned event at the college to engage the community.  KGNS News
  • The American Electric Power Foundation donated $50,000 to help fund Laredo College’s Fun Fest — a free celebration with carnival rides, live performances and food — scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28 from noon to 5 p.m. at Laredo College.  KGNS News
  • St. Augustine Catholic Schools is urging parents to apply for Texas’s Education Freedom Accounts vouchers for the 2026 to 2027 school year as the state sets aside $1 billion to support nearly 90,000 students. The online application opens Feb. 4 + interested families can review eligibility details.  KGNS News

  • Smiles from Heaven opened a dedicated teen room in Laredo that offers a safe space for cancer support and personal expression (including help for siblings) and plans to hire a counseling assistant to expand peer guidance.  KGNS News
