- ➤ Guillermo Pro was officially appointed superintendent of Laredo Independent School District on Feb. 5 in a special-called meeting and served as interim leader since July 2025, having also worked as principal of Martin High School and director of fine arts. KGNS News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Greg Abbott met with Webb County entrepreneurs, business, and finance leaders in Laredo on Feb. 5 to discuss job growth and technical training opportunities as small businesses face rising costs. Future plans may include new high school technical training programs. KGNS News
- ➤ Members of the Laredo Downtown Business Improvement District met yesterday to address safety concerns downtown and plan partnering with local leaders on improved security (more details pending). KGNS News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ A cross-border race between Laredo and Nuevo Leon is scheduled for Feb. 22 (further details pending) and will bring together athletes from both regions in a competitive event. KGNS News
- ➤ Laredo and Nuevo Leon governments will hold a cross-border race named for Bernardo Reyes + Tomas Sanchez on Sunday, Feb. 22. The event starts at 8:00 a.m. at Wisdom Industrial Park and finishes in Puerto Colombia, with race categories costing between $10 and $15. KGNS News
