  • Starting next week, KGNS in Laredo will welcome AJ Juarez as co-host with Mindy Casso—adding a new voice to the station’s familiar morning lineup. Viewers can expect a fresh dynamic at their local broadcast.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Laredo ISD has named longtime educator Guillermo Pro as its permanent superintendent, transitioning him from his interim role that began in July 2025. Pro expects his leadership to support student success and reinforce the value of local education.  KGNS News
  • Texas A&M International University College of Nursing is now accepting applications for its hybrid Advanced Nurse Education Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (TAMIU-SANE) Program. Training combines online coursework, labs, and clinical practice to prepare nurses with a Texas RN license and three years of experience in trauma-informed care.  Texas A&M International University
  • UISD is considering closing and consolidating five elementary schools amid a budget deficit, and officials will meet soon to review the proposal and its impact on local students.  KGNS News
  • UISD may close or consolidate five elementary schools before the next school year due to a budget shortfall; a public workshop is set for Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Student Activities Center, and a board meeting will decide plans on Feb. 18.  KGNS News
  • TAMIU is accepting applications for its hybrid Doctor of Philosophy in Criminal Justice program for working professionals and traditional students.   • A Laredo mental health officer said school police dropped students in crisis at hospitals without completing key emergency detention forms, and data on two January suicide attempts prompted a committee to explore enhanced mental health support options.  KGNS News
  • Laredo fire marshals have installed over 300 free smoke detectors in the past two years and are urging residents to register for the Sound the Alarm campaign at local community centers (with batteries that last ten years).  KGNS News
