CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On March 15, a shooting at the Cheyenne Subdivision left one woman dead and three others in critical condition—Laredo Police said 27-year-old Fernando Machado, armed with a high-caliber assault rifle and a prior criminal record, was charged with murder and aggravated assaults and is recovering in a San Antonio hospital. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Webb County continues its Tire Clean-Up Campaign by asking residents to set out acceptable tires by 7 a.m. today at colonias on Highway 359 near Los Altos, with crews scheduled to work again on Wednesday, March 19 and at Las Lomas next week — supporting efforts to keep the area trash-free. - ➤ On Monday, March 17, 16 new officers joined the Laredo Police Department after completing eight months of training—14 men and two women took the oath at a Pinning Ceremony attended by friends and family. KGNS News
- ➤ The City of Laredo’s Solid Waste Department is offering free monthly pickup for bulky items and brush through May. Residents in District One had their pickup on March 17 (furniture, bikes and mattresses are accepted) and District Four residents will have their pickup on March 26. KGNS News
- ➤ The Laredo College Police Department launched a new emergency number, 794-4444, on March 1 to help people quickly reach officers on both the main and South campuses. Patrol Sergeant Veronica Garcia noted the system directs calls to the correct department for emergencies like medical issues, fires, or crimes in progress. KGNS News

- ➤ U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar announced $3 million in federal funding for Gateway Community Health Center on Monday, March 17—CEO Elmo Lopez said the funds will improve medical access at 11 centers including the new West Laredo location and that centers in Rio Bravo, El Cenizo and the Mines Rd area will open soon. - ➤ The Laredo Health Department will host a free Introduction to Breathing and Meditation session on March 20th (10:00 AM to 11:30 AM) to teach breathing techniques that reduce stress and improve focus.
