CRIME NEWS

  • On Mar. 5, border officers at the World Trade Bridge seized 39 live pythons hidden in a tractor-trailer after the driver claimed no prohibited goods, & moved the reptiles to a controlled facility; the driver now faces over $35,000 in export violation penalties.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • TAMIU is reopening the Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium today with new immersive features and upgraded technology to offer visitors a dynamic space journey at the campus in Laredo. Guillermo (Memo) Benavides and director Peter Davis provided details on the upgrade.  KGNS News
  • Fasken Branch Library is accepting volunteer applications from high school students (including incoming freshmen) who must visit the library in person to pick up an application and meet with the librarian; placements will begin on March 30.  KGNS News
  • UISD special education students kicked off Exceptional Games week Tuesday with a parade of about 1,000 at Sames Auto Arena in Laredo. Competitions will continue through Thursday at SAC Sports Center as student athletes take part in community events outside the classroom.  KGNS News
  • Laredo ISD is hosting monthly sessions to offer immigration resources and school support to parents in the community — the program aims to connect families with essential guidance and is set to meet increasing local needs.  KGNS News
  • LISD held its Parent Academy Learning Session today that focused on immigration resources and consulate services (with support from community partners). The 13-year-old program also helps parents access school support to boost student success.  KGNS News
