CULTURE NEWS

  • Laredo College invites families to enjoy The SpongeBob Musical at Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center Theater on April 11 and April 12, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday (free admission is available with a valid Laredo College ID and general tickets cost $10).  LaredoBuzz
  • Downtown Laredo will soon feature a monarch butterfly mural at Grant Street and Flores Avenue designed by artist Allan Gindic to honor the butterfly migration and boost local art, and the revised design will be discussed at a future Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone meeting.  KGNS News
  • The 25th Jamboozie Festival will celebrate downtown Laredo with purple and gold lights, a live music lineup, and a crawfish boil on Saturday.  KGNS News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Texas have risen by over a dollar since last month, putting pressure on local delivery drivers and groups like Meals on Wheels. Drivers note the extra cost at pumps has quickly added up for longer trips.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Peter S. Goodman, a New York Times reporter, will speak on the global supply chain at TAMIU's Student Center Ballroom (STC 203) on Wednesday, April 15 at 6 p.m. The event is free and will be broadcast online via Microsoft Teams.  Texas A&M International University
  • Laredo ISD will hold an in person registration event Monday, Mar. 23 at Cigarroa Middle School (4 to 6 p.m.), where families can register multiple children with help on required documents and tour the new campus.   KGNS News
  • United ISD narrowed its school consolidation list to two campuses yesterday, and officials will hold community meetings soon + families should monitor local updates.  KGNS News
  • A TAMIU Rising Star team earned national recognition at the Molecule to Megabyte Energython in Houston by placing third and winning the People’s Choice Award. They will compete globally in October with their innovative model for gas-fired power plants that supports digital energy needs.  Texas A&M International University
  • Texas A&M International University reopened the Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium on Wednesday, March 18 outside LBV Science Center with festivities including tours and ticket giveaways (the event sets the stage for free showings during the Discover TAMIU Open House on Saturday, March 21).  Texas A&M International University

  • The Laredo Fire Department activated the new Fire Engine 16 and ambulance today — the units are equipped with advanced tools designed to boost emergency response and protect public safety across the community.  LaredoBuzz
