Fuentes, executive director of Investigative Reporters & Editors, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 20 in Washington, D.C. She spent 35 years in journalism at the Laredo Morning Times & San Antonio Express-News, leaving behind a legacy celebrated in local media.

Laredo officials have launched a public art contest that is now accepting student submissions.
The contest invites young artists to share their creative work and celebrate local talent.
Students from Laredo ISD, United ISD, TAMIU or Laredo College may submit original artwork, mural ideas, mini-gallery designs or creative writing for round two of the city’s public art contest (awards range from $200 to $750).
Entries close April 12 at 11:59 p.m.
