- ➤ A former teacher who spent most of her retirement volunteering at LMC has been honored by KGNS+ for her dedication and service at the hospital. Ardith Epstein began helping in the 1970s when a friend invited her to join the gift shop and front desk team to support hospital staff education. KGNS News
- ➤ A special Remembrance Mass to honor Laredo and Webb County veterans will be held Sunday, March 30 at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church—veterans, family members, and community agencies are asked to join and arrive by 8:30 a.m. KGNS News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Late Monday night, March 24th, a fire broke out at Sames Auto Arena and damaged part of the roof near an air system at 6415 Sinatra Parkway—firefighters quickly controlled the flames, closed nearby streets, and no one was hurt as officials investigate the cause and the arena’s director of operations takes over the property. - ➤ KGNS+ is hiring for a marketing role with a starting salary over $45,000 a year in Laredo. General Manager Luis Villarreal said the job lets workers sell ads on TV, social media and streaming apps and is a good chance for those seeking a career change. KGNS News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A teenager appears before a Webb County district judge as the county attorney seeks to certify him for adult trial after he allegedly attacked 72-year-old Felix Chavarria at Cheyenne Park nearly six months ago—hearings will continue on May 5 and in June. KGNS News
- ➤ Laredo Police are asking for help identifying a suspect connected to a theft on March 13 in the 4500 block of San Bernardo+ anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 727-TIPS or use the P3 app for tips and may qualify for a reward up to $1,000. KGNS News
- ➤ A 16-year-old is facing a Webb County district judge after allegedly assaulting an elderly man at Cheyenne Park on September 14—he remains detained as the process to certify him as an adult continues with hearings scheduled for May 5 and in June. KGNS News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Memorial Middle School reopened on Tuesday March 25 after a copper pipe broke in a seventh-grade hallway Monday March 24, causing water to leak into about six classrooms and prompting an early dismissal. Officials reported that teachers were in planning and no students were in the affected rooms—maintenance removed the water before classes resumed. KGNS News

- ➤ The Webb County Tax Office announced temporary office hours with paper permits, passports, transfers, and information services closing at 3:00 p.m. and motor vehicle renewals and property taxes closing at 4:00 p.m. while transfers and information services are closed today—no details have been provided yet on how long the changes will last. - ➤ The Laredo Public Health Department opened a free medical kiosk at Barbara Fasken Recreation Center today to offer items such as COVID-19 exams, flu exams, pregnancy tests and more.
