COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sunday morning, veterans from Webb County and Laredo gathered at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in prayer to honor service members and their sacrifice, with special emphasis on Vietnam veterans. Sergeant Paul Buitron (a veteran of Vietnam and Iraq wars) organized the mass as a tribute to those who dedicated their lives to serving the nation.  KGNS News
  • Saturday morning, dozens of community members gathered at Freddie Benavides Sports Complex for a Disability Awareness event hosted by the City of Laredo Health Department. The event—featuring a special ceremony, a Down Syndrome Awareness Walk and interactive activities like a Zumba class and games—promoted understanding and inclusion.  KGNS News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Laredo police identified 33-year-old Olimjon Obidovich Tashkulov from Staten Island, New York—killed when a trailer backed into a cargo bay at a business on the 900 block of Nicholas D. Hachar Road overnight on March 28—and said the driver cooperated with the investigation and was not under the influence.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, over 3,000 Laredo ISD students enjoyed the 13th annual All-Star Kids Field Day at the Shirley Field Sports Complex as part of Week of the Young Child, playing games like soccer, basketball and putt-putt. LISD officials said community partners such as Border Patrol — the fire department and FedEx also supported the event to help spark young learners’ enthusiasm for school.  KGNS News
  • United Independent School District will host a job fair on April 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Elias Herrera Middle School Cafeteria, 8800 McPherson Road—offering positions in teaching, transportation and cafeteria services for immediate hiring and the next school year.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • With Easter 20 days away, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reminds Laredo travelers that they may bring up to 12 cascarones if they are clean and free of egg residue—this rule helps prevent bird diseases and avoids fines of $300 to $1,000 for extra eggs. Agriculture officials will check these items at the border to ensure compliance.  KGNS News
