COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Sweetie, a 1-year-old terrier mix found as a stray, has been at the shelter for two months and is known for his love and energy. The Laredo Animal Protective Society will host a Mega Adoption Event on Saturday, April 5 (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.) at Petco locations at 5410 San Bernardo Avenue and 2450 Monarch Drive to help pets like him find loving homes. - ➤ LMC and STFB announced that the Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive collected over 7,000 jars — nearly double the goal of 4,000 — to help fight food insecurity in Laredo. LMC CEO Jorge Leal said he honored his pledge by wearing a Mr. Peanut costume to celebrate the community effort. KGNS News

- ➤ Laredo Police Department is seeking 21-year-old Jesus Isaias Rodriguez, wanted on arrest warrants for causing an accident with injuries and damages — he is described as 5′9″ tall and weighing 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. KGNS News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Wall That Heals, a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (in Washington, D.C.), opened yesterday at Uni-Trade Stadium (6320 Sinatra Pkwy) to honor Vietnam veterans and local heroes. A special ceremony will be held today at 6 p.m. with veterans, and the exhibit will remain open until April 6 at 2 p.m. KGNS News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ PILLAR partnered with UISD in November to offer full‑time staff — including teachers, transportation and administrative personnel — free mental health services such as in‑person psychiatric support, EMDR therapy and counseling sessions. KGNS News
- ➤ Students at Santo Niño Elementary School planted cherry tomatoes and sweet bell peppers (as part of the annual Farm Fresh School Garden event) to learn about nutrition and help supply the cafeteria with fresh produce. KGNS News

- ➤ City officials traveled to Washington, D.C. from March 9th to March 13th to meet with federal agencies and congressional representatives to seek funding and support for projects in infrastructure, economic development, border security, public health and cultural initiatives (a move aimed at strengthening Laredo's growth). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A 17-year-old student from Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Pablo Guzman, made a breakthrough in cancer research that may lead to a patch-like treatment for skin cancer — his work is already recognized by the American Chemical Society. He will hold a conference on April 11 to share his findings with other researchers. KGNS News
