  • The Laredo-Webb County Children’s Advocacy Center is holding its annual conference to teach the community how to report child abuse as survivor Elvira Gonzalez and law enforcement officials shared personal experiences and explained proper reporting methods—highlighting the center’s work with over 350 forensic interviews and 200 free counseling sessions for children.  KGNS News
  • Residents of the Azteca neighborhood in Laredo are working to restore Las Palmas Park along the river—11 residents have planted 50 plants so far and are consulting with an engineer on plans that include updating the amphitheater and adding gardens.  KGNS News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Webb County Sheriff’s Office will hold a candlelight vigil honoring crime victims at Lake Casa Blanca on April 10 at 6:30 p.m.—the event welcomes anyone who has lost a loved one to a crime.  KGNS News

  • Foreign car imports faced a 25% tariff starting April 3, which experts say might raise vehicle prices by up to $8,000. Some Laredo residents support the move while federal guidelines on the tariffs are still pending.  KGNS News
  • Dr. Daniel Covarrubias from TAMIU delivered a keynote on reimagining North American economic integration at the NASCO Continental Reunion in Fort Worth on April 2, saying current tariffs threaten decades of stable trade. He detailed the need for coordinated policy and new technology to improve supply chains—insights that may influence the upcoming USMCA review.  Texas A&M International University

  • Webb County has been under a burn ban since late March — low humidity, dry weather, and drought conditions led the Laredo Fire Department to advise residents to cut grass and safely discard cigarettes to reduce wildfire risk.  KGNS News
  • Today, the City of Laredo is asking residents to take a survey on public safety, health, recreation and infrastructure to help shape the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. City officials say the survey feedback will guide them as they plan future spending.  KGNS News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Laredo College will host its free Spring 2025 Health Fair tomorrow at the College of Health Sciences building on South Campus from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.—attendees can get free screenings for glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, height, weight and vision as well as join Zumba and Tai Chi sessions.  KGNS News

  • The Laredo Chamber of Commerce will host the 35th annual Bola Blanca Chamber Classic for a golf tournament at Casa Blanca Golf Course tomorrow at 8 a.m.+ The event will feature fun challenges like the Ring of Fire, a breakfast at 7 a.m., and a party with live music by Kicks Garcia while raising funds for local youth golf programs.  KGNS News
