- ➤ Laredo Medical Center surpassed its peanut butter drive goal by collecting (10,266 jars) for the South Texas Food Bank, launched in February with help from local schools and businesses; the hospital announced the milestone Thursday. KGNS News
- ➤ Voz de Niños is hosting its Superhero 5K and Family Fun Run to support local foster children and boost community spirit in Laredo. The event will take place soon and invites families to join in capes and costumes (details are forthcoming). KGNS News

- ➤ TAMIU will celebrate its Spring 2026 graduation at Sames Auto Arena on Thursday, May 14 with ceremonies at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Over 1,000 students from 17 countries are expected to cross the stage — including the hooding of a doctoral candidate and commissioning of five cadets. - ➤ Dr. Cynthia A. Gallardo of TAMIU was honored with an Honorable Mention by the American Educational Research Association for her work in educational leadership. The award highlights her research and mentorship that strengthen school administration. Texas A&M International University
- ➤ Texas A&M International University will host its second annual LEARN Expo on April 15 at the Western Hemispheric Trade Center (room 111) from 10 to 11 a.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., and will hold Undergraduate Research Week from April 20 to 24 with workshops and competitions to support student research. - ➤ Workforce Solutions is hosting a two-day U.S. Customs and Border Protection workshop today from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at its local center — experienced officers will guide applicants through exams, background checks and physical tests for law enforcement positions. KGNS News

- ➤ A morning storm on Apr. 9 left Laredo with a downed tree, a fire scare, and flooding while local crews began cleanup — residents are advised to stay alert. KGNS News
- ➤ A local garden introduced a soil-free planting system with 3D-printed towers (designed to boost water efficiency) to improve urban gardening. The project launched yesterday and offers a new way for residents to grow plants. KGNS News

- ➤ Laredo officials declared April Child Abuse Prevention Month on Apr. 9 to raise awareness about child safety (aiming to inform residents about available support resources). The proclamation launched a month-long effort for community education and outreach. KGNS News
- ➤ City leaders proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Laredo to raise awareness for an issue that has affected over 14,000 children since 1997, with nearly 500 receiving services at the Children’s Advocacy Center last fiscal year. The Texas Child Abuse Hotline (1-800-252-5400) is available for anyone who suspects abuse. KGNS News
