  • Laredo will host its first-ever World Trade Showcase today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Sames Auto Arena as part of a weeklong celebration of its inland port status, featuring trucks and transportation displays and a keynote address by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator Derek Barrs.  KGNS News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Laredo Public Library will host the Forbidden Pages: Dark Romance Book Club meeting for adult readers on Tuesday, Apr. 21 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Joe A. Guerra Library + conclude its dark romance series with a discussion of 'Lights Out.'  KGNS News
  • Felipe Saldívar built a garden tribute in south Laredo with decorative rocks (shaped like Kung Fu Panda) to honor his son Enrique, a DreamWorks technical director known for films including Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and Shrek.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • United ISD held a workshop April 15 to discuss cost-saving measures, including the potential consolidation of elementary schools, as parents stressed that any decision must keep students’ best interests in mind.  KGNS News
  • Two LISD schools were briefly placed in secure mode yesterday during a BP search, and officials confirmed that classes resumed shortly afterward (with no reported threat).  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Webb County partnered with Laredo College to offer leadership and customer service training at the Billy Hall Administration Building for county employees. Approved on Monday, Apr. 13, the program will include twice-monthly sessions and workshops and run until April 2027.  KGNS News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Laredo parents told a Blue Ribbon Committee for People with Disabilities (BRCPD) meeting that few ABA services and high costs limit autism care support in the community, leaving lower-income households with few options.  KGNS News
  • AHEC will host its 2026 Genetics Conference and Resource Fair on April 25 in Laredo, offering free access to expert advice on ABA therapy and early intervention for developmental disabilities (including autism signs).  KGNS News
