  • Earlier this month, the Children’s Advocacy Center hosted its third annual Warrior Walk during Child Abuse Prevention Month, encouraging locals to wear blue and join a short walk to protect children in Laredo and Webb County — organizer Isidro Alaniz urged parents to watch for signs of mistreatment.  KGNS News
  • United Way is hosting its annual 'That's How We Roll' Bowling Tournament today at Jett Bowl North (5823 McPherson Rd) from 12-3 p.m.; team registration for five costs $300.  KGNS News
  • On Friday, Apr. 24, the Warrior Walk event in Laredo raised awareness for child abuse prevention plus united local families and community leaders to discuss available resources.  KGNS News
  • Expired prescriptions and vitamins can be dropped off this Saturday, Apr. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at designated locations — follow posted guidelines for acceptable items.  KGNS News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Laredo Creative Reuse is hosting the Rewoven Fashion Show today at the Pan American Courts Arts Complex at 3301 San Bernardo Ave where doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8:30 p.m.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UISD is moving ahead with plans to consolidate several elementary schools—officials said details on school transitions and public meetings will be shared soon.  KGNS News
  • The Laredo Texas A&M Mother’s Club is hosting a rummage sale today from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 6501 Arena Blvd to raise funds for student scholarships that benefit freshmen and current students across Texas A&M in College Station, McAllen and Galveston.  KGNS News
  • The new Green Legacy Scholars program helps working students and caregivers pay for tuition and books; it is open to applicants aged 18-64 who work at least 20 hours a week or care for family members. Applications run through June 1 and are managed by the Laredo Area Community Foundation.  KGNS News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Endangered Species Committee voted on March 31 to exempt Gulf drilling from protecting Rice’s whale, an endangered species with about 50 individuals. Experts say the decision could increase risks from deeper wells and more ship traffic — disruptions that may affect South Texas business.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Laredo leaders approved a campaign on Monday, Apr. 20 to assess the growing homelessness problem and expand services, including enhanced access to mental health resources and DMV services (aimed at helping job applications).  KGNS News
  • Laredo's city council received an update on Monday, Apr. 20 on a groundwater project that could provide a second water source. City Manager Joseph Neeb said Legacy Water Supply Corporation has reported positive tests and the project could be completed in two to three years.  KGNS News
  • El Metro Transit System announced Route 17 Saturday service will include Milo Rd. and Killam Industrial Blvd starting May 4. Two new stops at 8401 Milo Rd. and 8502 Killam Industrial Blvd have been added, with updated printed schedules on buses and at the Transit Center next week.  KGNS News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tecos Dos Laredos, coming off two losses, will host Saraperos de Saltillo in today's game at Parque La Junta in Nuevo Laredo at 8 p.m., with series games on Friday, April 24 and Sunday, April 26 at Uni-Trade Stadium (all airing live on South Texas Sports Channel 10.2).  KGNS News
