- ➤ Laredo will mark its 270th anniversary on Saturday, May 17 in historic downtown beginning at 10 a.m. with a cake-cutting ceremony, mariachi performance, and serenade of Las Mañanitas. Neighbors from Nuevo Laredo are invited to join festivities including a local farmer’s market, pop-up artisan shops, and an evening park concert—each event honoring the city's shared history. - ➤ Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted 17,500 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes at Laredo Port of Entry after a thorough review of cargo held since early March and seized the shipment on April 25—if genuine, it would have been worth over $729K. LaredoBuzz
- ➤ On April 30, the Laredo Police Department unveiled a permanent memorial at its headquarters for domestic violence victims that displays 74 names from as far back as 1991—officials noted the memorial comes after five homicides in 2025, three of which involved domestic violence. KGNS News

- ➤ Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to keep U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar’s trial in Houston instead of moving it to Laredo. They argued that Houston— with better flight access for witnesses and less local bias— is a more suitable venue, and a hearing is scheduled for May 2 at 8:45 a.m. via Zoom. KGNS News
- ➤ Pending approval today, Webb County may implement a Scofflaw program that prevents Laredo drivers from renewing license plates if they have unpaid tickets—County Tax Assessor-Collector Patricia Barrera said the program would also block vehicle registration for those with outstanding fines from local or other communities. The system will use state databases to update fines within a day once paid and urges residents to settle debts promptly. KGNS News
