  • The Laredo Public Library is hosting NSF STEM Day today from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library to celebrate 75 years of science and discovery; the free event offers hands-on exhibits—robotics, LEGO builds, Braille stations, 3D pens, and drone zones—for community members of all ages.  LaredoBuzz
  • Laredo will celebrate its 270th birthday on May 17 starting at 10 a.m. at San Agustin Plaza — a citywide party featuring cake cutting, mariachis, and events hosted by over 30 local groups.  KGNS News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A car chase involving another law enforcement agency led to two crashes in north Laredo on May 9—one near Saunders Street and McPherson Road and a second at Calton Road and McPherson Road—while officers and emergency responders continue their investigation.  KGNS News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Laredoans gathered at San Agustin Cathedral on May 9 to honor Pope Leo XIV, whose support for migrants and missionary work in Peru gave many hope for South Texas—local church leaders and parishioners said his leadership could help guide the community during hard times. The community expressed excitement over his compassionate approach and continued service to the immigrant and poor populations.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Laredo ISD hosted a special event to honor mothers ahead of Mother’s Day, featuring mariachi music, a luncheon and a discussion on the challenges of raising children. Jamie Silva shared a heartfelt message that mothers form the foundation of family life — urging everyone to value their everyday sacrifices.  KGNS News

  • Buena Vista Sports Complex is more than half complete and is expected to open this summer so Laredo can host events like the PONY League World Series. City officials say phase one is nearing completion — including baseball and softball fields, concession stands, and parking improvements funded by a $45 million sports venue tax.  KGNS News
