COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dozens of volunteers gathered at Catholic Cemetery this weekend to honor veterans when American Legion Post 59 placed new American flags on graves ahead of Memorial Day. The group will resume placing flags next Saturday, May 17.  KGNS News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Laredo Police Department asked neighbors for help in finding 21-year-old Adriana Alanis, a special needs individual last seen wearing a dark-colored jacket on May 12. Anyone with information is urged to call LPD at 956-795-2800.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Laredo College will offer a new five-week Emergency Medical Responder course for Summer I & Summer II sessions aimed at students 18 and older with a high school diploma. The course, available in both face-to-face & hybrid formats, will teach skills such as assessing injuries, administering medications, and assisting in childbirth.  KGNS News
  • More than 170 teachers from United Independent School District were honored with Texas' top teaching award at a recent celebration where 211 teachers received a total of $2.9 million extra pay for their hard work in the classroom.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Family, friends and first responders gathered May 12 at Jarvis Plaza to honor fallen officers during National Police Week. Laredo Police Chief Miguel Rodriguez spoke about the department's 175-year history — noting that six officers died in the line of duty and that hundreds later attended a Blue Mass at San Agustin Cathedral.  KGNS News
  • Medical experts report that 50% of first responders and law enforcement officers experience PTSD, with rates doubling among frontline workers. The Texas Department of Public Safety now provides free help through its VESS program—assisting employees in managing trauma from incidents including fatal car crashes.  KGNS News
