EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Laredo College will host a health sciences summer camp at its South Campus College of Health Sciences from June 8 to 11 for 8th-10th graders, including breakfast and lunch and camp sessions from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is $50 per child until Friday, June 5 (11 a.m.). LaredoBuzz
- ➤ Monique Godines, a Laredo music teacher at Roberto Santos Elementary and lead singer of Little Sister, was honored as Teacher of the Month days before retiring after 31 years of service (she received a gift basket with local business gift cards, a t-shirt, a tumbler, and $250). KGNS News

- ➤ On Monday, May 18, Iturbide Street will get wider sidewalks, raised intersections to curb level, string lights, and shade trees to improve walkability. Three blocks are complete (crews now focus on the San Bernardo intersection) as the city installs and lights a new street sign. KGNS News
- ➤ City officials announced that Iturbide Street in Laredo will get a makeover with wider sidewalks and raised intersections to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow. The project is set to begin soon. KGNS News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Laredo officials launched a lifestyle medicine program yesterday — the initiative offers free diabetes screenings and health counseling at a local health center. The program will enroll residents in healthy lifestyle courses next week. KGNS News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Laredo Marathon, a Boston Marathon qualifier, is scheduled for the first or second weekend of November — awaiting TxDOT approval for Loop 20 traffic that could alter the route. KGNS News
