COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Divine Mercy Catholic Church will host Super Bingo on Saturday, May 24, at Casa Blanca Ballroom with 10 main games and extra rounds between games—advance tickets cost $25 at the church office while door tickets are $30. The funds raised will support expanding the church parking lot.  KGNS News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 18, a man was hit by a car at Highway 83 and Mercer Street in Laredo and was taken to the hospital in serious condition — police said the northbound lanes on Highway 83 were closed while the Crash Team investigated the incident.  KGNS News

CRIME NEWS

  • Christian Sanchez said his six-year-old son was left on a daycare bus for about 30 minutes on May 12—he managed to open the door and exit, was taken to the hospital, and police are investigating charges of abandonment and child endangerment.  KGNS News
  • A Laredo woman was arrested after a high-speed chase that began on Riverbank Drive and ended when she crashed into a semi-truck on Santa Maria Avenue — she faces charges for human smuggling and evading arrest after troopers recovered two migrants.  KGNS News
  • Laredo police are asking for help to find a man wanted for a break-in on May 11th at the 2600 block of Jaime Zapata Memorial Highway (tips are accepted anonymously with a reward of up to $1,000 if his lead results in an arrest).  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday evening, Laredo city leaders met at City Council Chambers in City Hall to review plans for an efficiency study and for trails at the SOLA property—including projects for reforesting Slaughter Park and building trailheads along Zacate Creek. Animal Care Services also provided an update on wild hog and javelina damage to private property.  KGNS News
  • TxDOT and Laredo city officials issued a proclamation on May 19 urging drivers to take extra care near construction sites to protect worker safety+ officials reported that 87 work zone crashes led to eight fatalities and four serious injuries+ drivers should expect doubled fines in work zones.  KGNS News
  • City offices in Laredo and Webb County will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, due to the holiday; services like garbage collection + transit will run as normal and offices resume on Tuesday, May 27.  KGNS News
