- ➤ A sixth suspect, Cynthia Gabriela Muniz Carreon, pleaded guilty to a human smuggling conspiracy in 2024 that resulted in a Guatemalan man's death—she now faces a potential life sentence and a $250,000 fine and remains in custody until sentencing. KGNS News
- ➤ Laredo police said a 7-year-old boy died on May 22 after being thrown from an SUV on Highway 83 near Market Street—officials urge drivers to buckle up as Memorial Day weekend brings increased traffic. KGNS News
- ➤ Four people were arrested this week by the Webb County Constable’s Office Precinct 1 — Justine Castaneda, Eric Gonzalez, Bryan Rosales, and David Sanchez — for drug charges, assault, and additional offenses including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and breaking parole. KGNS News

- ➤ A binational air quality workshop will occur on June 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the UT Public Health Science Center, where officials and residents from both sides of the border will discuss PM2.5 levels. The event will launch a live data dashboard and invite public, city leaders, and industry representatives — efforts organized by the Rio Grande International Study Center and the National Air Council — to boost local air quality understanding.
