COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nena, a pretty basset hound given up two months ago, is ready for adoption at the Laredo Animal Protective Society where she was spayed and is healthy; her $80 fee applies and she loves car rides, water, kids, and other dogs + the shelter also needs volunteers. The shelter at 2500 Gonzalez Street is open for visits Wednesday to Sunday.  KGNS News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 25, a house fire in the 4500 block of Alverado Ln in South Laredo threatened a mother and her daughter—after the daughter spotted smoke, the mother rescued her and now the family asks for prayers and clothing donations while the cause is under investigation.  KGNS News

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 28, Laredo police arrested a 13-year-old boy and charged him along with another United ISD student with making terroristic threats toward a local school after artificial intelligence flagged an online gaming conversation mentioning shooting — authorities said no credible threat was found and urged parents to monitor their children's online activities.  KGNS News
  • CBP officers at the Laredo Port of Entry seized over $318K worth of cocaine from a 2010 Ford F-150 on May 26 — they arrested the 51-year-old driver and took the truck while Homeland Security continues its investigation.  KGNS News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Laredo chef David Ovalle of Livi’s Mexicue celebrated National Brisket Day by sharing his passion for barbecue and his creative technique in grinding meat and crafting unique patties. Ovalle explained that his method – which uses Mexican brisket navel and bacon – highlights the local sazón that makes Laredo’s food scene special.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Laredo man who was paralyzed in a Highway 83 crash two years ago spoke at a seatbelt safety event on May 28 where TxDOT and local law enforcement joined forces to remind drivers to buckle up as part of the Click It or Ticket campaign—its goal is to reduce fatal crashes this summer.  KGNS News
  • Webb County announced it will begin a tire clean-up campaign in Precinct 1 this week (covering El Cenizo, Mirando City, Rio Bravo, and La Presa) to help residents remove old tires; the program runs through late June with designated collection times in each area (for example, collection in El Cenizo starts at 3:30 p.m.).  KGNS News
  • On May 28, Laredo celebrated nearly 50 city employees who served over 20 years as retirees received a final farewell—Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino praised their commitment and retiree Reymundo Valdez said he now looks forward to spending more time with his granddaughter.  KGNS News
