COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Boys and Girls Club of Laredo is celebrating 80 years of service and launching its largest annual fundraiser today. Tickets cost ($200) each and offer chances to win cash prizes, a Rolex, a Ford Bronco and more to support programs for local kids.  KGNS News
  • El Metro Transit will bring back Kids on the Go! free summer program so youth aged 6 to 17 can ride from June 1 through August 9 in Laredo—children under 12 must have an adult. Youth must show an approved ID or can purchase a program card for $2.  LaredoBuzz

CULTURE NEWS

  • The HOLA! Art Museum of South Texas opens today in downtown Laredo to showcase a new collection of local art; visitors can enjoy guided tours plus interactive displays that celebrate community creativity.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A local coalition filed a formal complaint against United ISD board members alleging procedural missteps (further review expected) and community leaders say the board is set to address the complaint in coming days.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials said a malfunction in the water treatment process caused the boil water notice on May 29—corrective actions are underway to restore safe water services.  KGNS News
  • City officials said a faulty backflow preventer at a single home led to a four-day boil-water notice and isolation of the property. Utilities Director Dr. Tareq Al-Zabet and City Manager Joseph Neeb detailed the cleanup and ongoing $120 million upgrades (efforts to improve water quality) to the system.  KGNS News
  • Veterans and their families can access benefits and resources at the 2026 Vet-Con event, which will be held on Wednesday, June 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UT Education and Research Center (1837 Bustamante Street) in Laredo.  KGNS News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Laredo advocates from the Suicide Prevention Coalition held a rally at the corner of Del Mar and McPherson to promote mental health and the 988 hotline while city data showed eight suicides so far this year, with none in May + 18 last year.  KGNS News

  • The Tecos de los Dos Laredos remain on the road after a 1-3 series loss and will face Caliente de Durango today at 9:05 p.m. in a bid to even the series.  KGNS News
