ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday night at about 9:45 p.m. on the 1500 block of Monterrey Avenue, Laredo Police rescued an elderly couple from their SUV stuck on train tracks when bystanders helped and railroad authorities halted the approaching train & the couple was taken to a hospital for precautionary evaluation.  KGNS News

CRIME NEWS

  • Laredo Fire Department responded on May 30 when a Customs and Border Protection agent became unresponsive at (100 Convent Ave. and Bridge One) in South Laredo; hazmat units were on the scene as the 37-year-old man was taken to Laredo Medical Center in critical condition and an investigation is underway.  KGNS News
  • A 75-year-old man was arrested after a stabbing in Laredo on May 29 at 11:02 p.m. during a fight at a home on Bismark Street—police said the victim is receiving treatment at Laredo Medical Center for a non-life-threatening chest wound.  KGNS News
  • Laredo police raided a South Laredo business on May 29 as part of an investigation into illegal eight-liner operations — they seized over 60 gambling machines, $12,000 in cash, and arrested two employees.  KGNS News
  • Deputy Michael Gonzalez was arrested Friday for driving while intoxicated while off duty—Webb County officials launched a full review of the incident.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Dept. of Labor announced it will gradually pause operations at Job Corps centers nationwide by June 30, including the Laredo center. Officials said the decision comes after a proposed 2026 budget and growing deficits+the program ran a $140 million deficit in 2024 and is expected to reach $213 million in 2025.  KGNS News
  • On May 30, Congressman Henry Cuellar recognized local agencies and nonprofits for reducing overdose deaths in Laredo using harm-reduction efforts. In 2023, there were 67 overdose deaths, but only five have been recorded in 2025 + the Drug Enforcement Administration confirmed the measures are effective.  KGNS News
