Laredo runners gathered at Max Mandel Golf Course on Saturday, May 30 for the Coach JJ Gomez Memorial 5K honoring the late Parks and Recreation Director, who passed away in December 2025.
Every finisher earned a medal while top runners received trophies and prizes.
The Coach JJ Gomez Memorial 5K is planned to honor the late parks director by uniting local runners to celebrate his legacy; additional details on the event's time and location in Laredo will be provided soon.
At North Central Park on Saturday, May 30, runners honored late Border Patrol agent Jose 'Joe' Martinez by raising funds for college scholarships for graduating seniors (he served as an assistant chief before his passing).

United ISD is launching a free summer meals program for kids 18 and younger on Monday, June 1 at select campuses, parks and community sites; meal days and times vary and meals must be eaten on site.
