- ➤ The City of Laredo is opening three public pools from May 31 to June 8 to help families cool off as summer starts—Bartlett Pool at 6602 Thomas Ave, Sisters of Mercy Water Park at 2201 Zacatecas St, and San Miguel Pool at 10202 International Blvd, with each pool closed on Mondays and having specific daily hours. - ➤ The South Texas Food Bank launched its free summer food program on Monday, June 2, providing meals for youth 18 and under at community centers across Webb County. The program runs Monday to Friday until August 12 + helps support local families during the summer. KGNS News

- ➤ A 38-year-old man from Mexico was found guilty after a two-day trial of trying to cross the border illegally using a stolen identity—he falsely claimed U.S. citizenship in June—and now faces up to 20 years in prison. KGNS News
- ➤ Border Patrol provided new details on a weekend chase in South Laredo when agents spotted a speeding white Ford Expedition near One River Place just before 5 p.m. Sunday, June 1 and DPS helped stop the driver at Soria Dr. and Zapata Hwy—nine undocumented immigrants were detained for processing—. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A former Job Corps employee said chaos reigned when hundreds of students and nearly 60 employees were abruptly let go on May 30, leaving many uncertain about certificates and pay—low-income students aged 16 to 24 were among those affected. Congressman Henry Cuellar said he plans to contact the secretary to explore ways to streamline the program, which is widely ranked among the nation’s best and has contracts ending on June 30. - ➤ Webb County offices experienced technical issues with phone and internet systems as of 8:30 a.m. Monday—officials said no estimate for restoration was available. KGNS News
- ➤ Webb County Sheriff said his multi-million-dollar building project is still pending final work on the second and third roofs, which stops his office from moving in. Webb County officials confirmed that construction on the parking lot and emergency fixes is in progress—county workers expect the building to open within 120 days. KGNS News
- ➤ The Laredo Police Department opened applications on Monday, June 2 for community members interested in becoming officers, with applications accepted until Wednesday, June 11. The official test is scheduled for July 23 at Sames Auto Arena—benefits include a compressed work week, health benefits and incentives for education. KGNS News
