- ➤ Cristina Bueno, volunteer coordinator for Voz de Niños, said summer is a good time for educators on break to train as child advocates—new volunteers will be sworn in by a judge and work with a child for 12 to 18 months. KGNS News

- ➤ City officials unveiled a vibrant sculpture with brightly colored LAREDO letters near Bridge One on Tuesday morning to celebrate local pride and culture. The installation was built in partnership with United South High School students who spent two months designing the artwork—visitors are asked to treat it with respect. KGNS News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A recent survey by GoBankingRates ranked Laredo as the most affordable city for homeowners by comparing rent, home values, groceries, healthcare, utilities, and transportation costs+it found that residents need about $72,000 per year to live comfortably, with McAllen ranking second. KGNS News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials in Laredo started the LEIP after nearly 13,000 people rejected a $417 million bond so that they can cut spending and focus on essential projects—City Manager Joe Neeb said the review of city departments and a spending freeze will guide changes by August. KGNS News
- ➤ On June 2, the Laredo Job Corps Center Director Alejandra Aceves told the city council about the suspension of operations after a federal pause was announced, noting the center's strong record as only three of 220 youth remained in the facilities. She expressed pride in the program's achievements and urged local leaders and Congressman Henry Cuellar to help explore new opportunities to continue serving the community — ensuring that those who need job training will have a future path. - ➤ Councilman Dr. Tyler King addressed homeowner complaints over fiber optic installations damaging waterlines at a June 2 meeting and proposed new rules that require hydro excavation and higher fines for violations—companies must also provide contact details to respond within 48 hours. - ➤ City officials updated Laredo residents on ongoing bridge projects. The Colombia Bridge project still awaits a presidential permit under federal review—if no decision is made by June 16 it will be automatically approved, while the World Trade Bridge has its permit approved and is now in environmental review to safely relocate Texas Horn Mussels as renovations begin on Bridge 2 administrative buildings.
