  • A Laredo family is asking for help after a fatal crash took the life of a loved one—family members say they need assistance in accessing crisis support.  KGNS News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 46-year-old man in a blue Honda Civic fled police after crashing into a construction sign Monday night in Laredo and was arrested on charges for intoxication, providing false information, and striking a fixture — officials are investigating the incident.  KGNS News
  • A self-identified member of the Paisas gang assaulted a U.S. Border Patrol agent during an arrest in Laredo when he became combative and was subdued with a less-lethal device during a joint operation with the Laredo Police Department—he now faces federal charges.  KGNS News
  • Laredo Police Department’s Auto Theft Task Force is seeking help to identify a man suspected of burgling a car on May 28 at the 5900 block of San Bernardo Avenue—he was driving a black KIA Soul with rear paper plates.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials confirmed that Laredo is in constant communication with local, state, and federal partners following reports of ICE visiting construction sites and businesses—some council members raised concerns that the raids could hurt the local economy. A special City Council meeting is set for Friday at 12:30 p.m. to decide if the issue will be discussed further.  KGNS News
  • City officials announced that an $11.3M water infrastructure overhaul will begin Monday, June 16 to replace aging waterlines across 17 major roadways after over 200 breaks occurred. Residents welcomed the planned repairs (Genesis Gomez said she thinks the work is a vital step) as city leaders aim to improve water quality and reliability in the most affected areas.  KGNS News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A groundbreaking ceremony took place Tuesday morning for the Three Points Village Project in south Laredo, where NeighborWorks Laredo, along with county and city officials, marked the start of building the first five of 24 planned homes. The project includes two homes with income restrictions while the rest are for first-time buyers—five families are expected to move in by Christmas.  KGNS News
