- ➤ Authorities arrested Resendo Rosalio Banda Juantos after a Texas DPS trooper made a traffic stop near Laredo on I-35 and discovered $160,000 in cash hidden in three square packages—investigators said the money originated from Houston and was destined for Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. KGNS News

- ➤ Officials announced on June 11 that the Sister Cities Festival returns to Laredo with a new 5K run that will bring community members together. KGNS News
- ➤ The Sister Cities Festival returns from July 11th through 13th at Sames Auto Arena with a new 5K run on its final day—organizers noted the first 100 runners get a free t-shirt and registration is $25 before it rises to $40 on race day. Juan Vasquez from the Laredo Convention and Visitors Bureau encouraged residents to join the three-day event that will also offer walking and over 200 exhibitors showcasing Mexican food and crafts. - ➤ Laredo officials approved a new bridge project that they say will boost trade and the local economy. Construction will begin soon—city leaders say the project will improve transportation and help local businesses grow. KGNS News

- ➤ Finley Elementary held a tree planting on May 30 to honor two brothers, aged 7 and 6, who died in a van crash in Mexico on March 23 nearly three months ago. The school placed ribbons on the oak tree—gave a memory box to the family and renamed its Athlete of the Year award after one of the boys—to keep their memory alive. KGNS News

- ➤ A Laredo immigration attorney advised workers to remain silent and identify themselves if federal agents approach them at a business—he explained that because border cities use reasonable suspicion instead of probable cause, workers should ask for an immigration judge and decline a voluntary return if offered. - ➤ On June 11, the Laredo Police Department said it does not take part in civil immigration enforcement nor ask about immigration status — instead, it supports public safety as federal ICE and HSI operations continue within the city. KGNS News
