  • Former TAMIU soccer player Tayeb Ahmadi, born in France, switched from the sports field to the boardroom after earning a Systems Engineering degree and a master's in Data Analytics, and he now leads a tech company in Laredo—he credits his TAMIU coach for paving his way—and mentors those pursuing similar paths.  Texas A&M International University

  • Dr. Daniel Covarrubias from TAMIU joined a strategic dialogue on US-Mexico trade in Brownsville on June 6. He and other experts discussed smart border measures and digital trade strategies that may boost economic growth in local ports like Laredo.  Texas A&M International University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • TAMIU will offer a four-week art summer course called Painting with Soil that teaches students to make paints using natural pigments from the earth. The course runs in July at its Center for the Fine and Performing Arts from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.—the fee is $150 and spaces are limited.  Texas A&M International University
  • Texas A&M International University's Small Business Development Center will offer an in-person QuickBooks Online course Tuesday, June 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at TAMIU to help small business owners manage their finances—course enrollment costs $125 and includes training materials, software, computers and internet, with limited seating.  Texas A&M International University
  • Texas A&M International University will host its Logistechs Living Lab Summer Bootcamp from July 7 to July 11 to train students and industry professionals in analyzing and optimizing cross-border trade flows. The program will offer hands-on training in data cleaning, visualization, and forecasting + a Certificate of Completion for participants.  Texas A&M International University
  • Texas A&M International University's main Instagram account posted its first viral content on June 12, which blended elements of May's Diploma Party with graduation cap designs and amassed over 3 million views—its impact was boosted by Pubity's republish on June 10 that added 758,686 likes and 3,548 shares before today—further increasing its national reach.   • Texas A&M International University’s School of Engineering hosted its inaugural Engineering Design Conference this Spring, where nearly 180 attendees watched more than 90 student presenters showcase projects in video game development, AI driven educational platforms and robotics; winning teams received certificates and monetary awards. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño said the city is not involved in federal immigration operations and urged residents to protest peacefully amid expected anti-ICE demonstrations. He added that Governor Greg Abbott deployed state troopers and National Guard soldiers across Texas to support local law enforcement—city officials are in touch with state and federal partners for updates.  KGNS News

  • TAMIU’s advanced nurse training program partnered with LMC to expand forensic care for sexual assault survivors by donating a colposcope & a forensic photography kit for local exams.
