CRIME NEWS

  • The Webb Co. Sheriff's Office is searching for a wanted fugitive — officials say the investigation remains active and urge anyone with information to come forward.  KGNS News
  • Laredo police said two women were hit by a car that fled after striking them on the 1300 block of E. Ryan Street Sunday night, June 15, and both were taken to the hospital as the investigation continues.  KGNS News
  • Jose de Jesus Soto-Gonzalez, a 36-year-old man from Mexico with multiple past deportations and a previous prison term for drug smuggling, pleaded guilty in March for illegally entering near Laredo — he was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison and will be deported after serving his time.  KGNS News
  • Laredo Police arrested a 16-year-old teen for racing on a highway near North Laredo on Sunday, June 15 at 11:28 p.m. after officers clocked a Chevrolet Tahoe at 98 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, and the teen was taken to Webb County Youth Village while the vehicle was impounded.  KGNS News
  • The Webb County Sheriff’s Office asked the community for help finding fugitive San Juanita Lee Guerra who was involved in an aggravated robbery on June 11 and now faces arrest warrants for aggravated robbery and exhibiting a deadly weapon—Sheriff Martin Cuellar said the investigation is ongoing.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Laredo College is now accepting registrations for Summer Two starting July 9 with payment due by July 8 and Fall beginning August 18 with payment due by August 14—academic advisors and financial aid help are available at the Fort McIntosh and South Campuses during business hours.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday morning, the City of Laredo and El Metro Transit System added 19 new compressed natural gas buses to the fleet; the buses feature modern seating+improved climate control+USB charging+low-voltage DC power ports and a Fast Fare system that accepts multiple forms of payment. City officials said the new buses are expected to reduce emissions and support a cleaner transit option.  KGNS News
  • Laredo City Council met Monday at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall to talk about a new rule for bulky waste that tells property owners what to do, a study on a workweek with 10-hour days over 4 days for some employees, and ways to fix funding problems at the World Trade Bridge—officials said the meeting set a clear agenda.  KGNS News
