CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On June 27, CBP officers seized 14 packages containing 55.86 pounds of alleged methamphetamine worth over $513,000 at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge when a 2011 Toyota Sienna was referred for secondary inspection—Homeland Security Investigations special agents are investigating the case. - ➤ Laredo College will host its second annual Flamenco Fest from July 29 to August 2 with free flamenco dance classes and a live Tablao performance on August 2 held in the transformed Kazen Student Center + faculty member Cristina Greco noted last year’s event was a huge success. The festival will celebrate Spanish art and culture, inviting everyone to join. KGNS News

- ➤ Laredo College and Our Lady of the Lake University have signed a memorandum that creates a transfer agreement for students to move from a community college to a four-year degree program – the move reduces barriers and expands college access for South Texas students. LaredoBuzz
- ➤ On Jul. 9, Webb County students received refurbished laptops from AT&T + Human I-T to bridge the digital divide, a move that will support access to technology for remote learning. KGNS News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Laredo, in coordination with Mage 4Group, LLC, began concrete work on June 30 at the intersection of International Boulevard and Springfield Avenue—part of Springfield Avenue Phase 2A—and will continue until August 28. - ➤ On June 30, Mayor Dr. Treviño and Congressman Cuellar announced that a Stryker battalion will soon support Border Patrol operations at our border+the Department of Defense said the move will boost detection and help deter illegal crossings. Officials stated the vehicles, which feature advanced sensors and high mobility, will work with federal and state partners+aiming to enhance local security. LaredoBuzz
- ➤ Due to a decrease in illegal crossings since early 2025, Border Patrol and DPS shifted trooper duties in Laredo to focus on vehicle registration and traffic checks, with recent pursuits involving a suspect with past human smuggling charges and another chase near the Colombia Solidarity Bridge—measures that underscore their ongoing mission to protect local roads. - ➤ Laredo Animal Care Services completed its 2025 Oral Rabies Vaccination Program by distributing about 3,000 vaccine baits in outer Laredo to prevent rabies in wildlife. The local team managed the operation independently—making Laredo the only city in Texas Health Region 11 to do so and it hosted its second Rabies Vaccination Clinic in early July at 5202 Maher Avenue.
