ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • TxDOT is investigating a May crash that killed a seven-year-old boy in the Three Points area—officials say the survey will look into factors that led to the fatal accident and help prevent future incidents.  KGNS News
  • The Laredo Fire Department urged residents to review fire safety measures after a house fire occurred in South Laredo on July 18 (reported at 5:19 p.m.) and stressed that careful precautions (like regular safety checks) are key to preventing future incidents.  KGNS News

CRIME NEWS

  • Police ended a standoff on July 18th by arresting a barricaded man in central Laredo—he is now in custody.  KGNS News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Laredo Film Society will hold a video editing workshop this weekend for local film enthusiasts to learn editing techniques, and more details on the timing and venue are expected soon.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An agreement signed on July 14 by the Centers for Medicare, Medicaid Services and the Department of Homeland Security gave ICE access to Medicaid data. Laredo immigration lawyer Nelly Vielma said the move could let officials link children on Medicaid with parents without Social Security cards—raising privacy risks.  KGNS News
  • Federal and Laredo officials told the public about border security plans on July 18, saying they would add more guards & cameras along the border. They said the new steps will be worked on more over the next few days to keep the area safe.  KGNS News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the Laredo Police Department is testing drones to deliver Narcan in overdose emergencies—Assistant Chief Ricardo Gonzalez said the drones provide real-time video and are dispatched quickly after 911 calls.  KGNS News
  • The Laredo Public Health Department acquired a new X-ray system that will be installed at the Tuberculosis Elimination Clinic to cut wait times and speed up TB diagnoses. Officials say the machine produces clearer images — helping with both routine check-ups and emergency screenings.  KGNS News
