🏛️ Government
Webb County leaders announced a town hall meeting at the Laredo ISD Performing Arts Center on San Bernardo Avenue on Aug.
18 with doors opening at 10 a.m. and presentations at 11 a.m. for ranchers, farmers and pet owners to hear experts on protecting animals from the New World screwworm.
Floodwaters have receded enough for Laredo to reopen roadways including Riverside Drive and Anna Avenue.
Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino said there is no bridge damage — residents should leave buoys in place for federal retrieval as clean-up efforts continue.
🏥 Health
AHEC held its second annual mental health event at Laredo City Hall on July 20 to share resources including the 988 Suicide Lifeline—suicide deaths dropped 25% while calls increased 45%.
A 5K run and 1K walk are set for Sept. 5 to offer further support.
🏈 Sports
The Laredo American Little League Senior Division team qualified for the World Series in South Carolina after a 4-3 win against Victoria on July 20.
The high schoolers advanced by winning four straight games in the 2026 Southwest Regional Senior League Tournament.
