CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two Mexican nationals were sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison for running a money laundering scheme that used local Laredo businesses to move drug money from Texas to Mexico and must pay fines of over $1 million and $887,000, the Department of Justice said Monday, July 21. - ➤ The DPS launched an operation on July 22 to recover stolen vehicles after reports from local residents increased; officers are working to locate suspects. KGNS News
- ➤ Authorities including Laredo Police and DPS recovered nearly a dozen stolen vehicles in Laredo—many taken from San Antonio—with troopers chasing suspects from July 8 to July 15 and arresting one suspect on July 15. KGNS News
- ➤ A Houston man, Santos Joel Garza, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on Monday, July 21 for planning to smuggle meth into the U.S.—he and his accomplice, Britain Jean Sada, used a truck's torque converters to hide the drugs, with Sada set to be sentenced on July 24. KGNS News
- ➤ Four Laredo gang members were sentenced to federal prison for a violent attack at Rio Grande Detention Center that injured several inmates—Jose Regalado-Solis received 12 years while Ruben Salazar, Javier Contreras, and Jesus Guadalupe Ortega received 5, 5, and 6 years respectively. KGNS News
