- ➤ Local officials presented Laredo veterans with Key to the City pins today to honor their service— the ceremony recognized their contributions to the community. KGNS News
- ➤ Six-month-old American Blue Heeler puppies Cowboy and Cowgirl were left at the Laredo Animal Protective Society at 2500 Gonzales Street, and staff hope to find a family that adopts both together—Cowboy wears an orange bandana and is calm while Cowgirl is energetic and playful. They are fixed, vaccinated, microchipped and protected against fleas and ticks. KGNS News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Laredo ISD Police officer named Michael Landin was arrested on July 23 for assault, discharging a firearm, and other charges after he allegedly fired his weapon and assaulted a man during an argument on July 12 at the 300 block of James Court—authorities are continuing their investigation. KGNS News
- ➤ Laredo Police asked the public for help locating Jose Juan Ramos, 23, a suspect in an aggravated robbery that occurred on July 4 at a convenience store on Jacaman Road—described as a 5-foot-7, 180-pound male with black hair and brown eyes, and believed to drive a white Cadillac CTS possibly with paper license plates. - ➤ Laredo College is hosting a Flamenco Festival today that brings the soul of Spain to our campus — the event will feature live dance and music performances — celebrating Spanish culture. KGNS News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local veterans in Laredo were honored with a symbolic Key to the City pin during a ceremony held just before Tuesday’s City Council meeting—recognizing their service and sacrifice. KGNS News
- ➤ On July 23, 451 candidates took the written exam for the Laredo Police Department as part of the selection process. Police Chief Miguel Rodriguez said only 72 candidates will be hired and those who pass will move on to an agility test—an essential next step. KGNS News
- ➤ Governor Samuel Garcia of Nuevo Leon proposed changing the name of the Laredo-Colombia Solidarity International Bridge to Nuevo Leon-Laredo International Bridge in a letter to Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino and the city council. Some council members responded positively and will discuss the proposal further while the city explores new marketing strategies to promote Laredo as a key trade gateway—efforts that may strengthen regional ties. - ➤ Laredo City Council is weighing a plan to raise tolls on international bridges—nearly 20,000 commercial trucks cross these bridges daily—in order to fund maintenance amid heavy traffic and future growth. Mayor Trevino said tolls have not increased in years and a study will help determine the required changes. KGNS News

- ➤ Today, the Laredo Public Health Department warns residents that hot weather and rain are worsening mosquito season—mosquitoes can spread chikungunya, West Nile virus and dengue. Residents should drain standing water, dress in long sleeves and pants, use bug spray, and repair screens as the department sprays early in the morning. KGNS News
