COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A back-to-school supply giveaway for pre-registered families was held Friday at the Fernando A. Salinas Community Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.—Webb County Commissioner Ricardo Jaime, Justice of the Peace Juan Paz and Pct. 1 Constable Guadalupe Gomez hosted the event as supplies were given out until they ran out.  KGNS News
  • Every Friday from 7:45 to 10 p.m., Haynes Recreation Center on Clarks Crossing will host an inclusive open gym for people with disabilities where wheelchairs and mobility aides are welcomed. Membership is required and the event offers wheelchair sports designed to create a safe space — a valuable option for local participants.  KGNS News
  • A free sensory event for kids was held at the Haynes Recreation Center yesterday—Parks and Recreation scheduled play sessions at 9:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. for rec center members.  KGNS News

CRIME NEWS

  • Officials announced a trial is scheduled for a suspect in the 2024 shooting of a Laredo woman — the case will be heard in court soon.  KGNS News
  • A Laredo man was sentenced to 20 years on July 25 for smuggling meth linked to a cartel — the court ruled his actions violated laws against drug trafficking.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Laredo City Council is working to reduce train blockages at downtown and west side intersections during rush hour. Councilmembers from Districts 7 and 8 are seeking an agreement with railroad companies — they want a long-term fix such as grade separations to help emergency responders and residents.  KGNS News
  • On July 25, Laredo City Council met to discuss plans that aim to ease train blockage issues disrupting local traffic—officials said further proposals will be reviewed in upcoming sessions.  KGNS News
