- ➤ A former Laredo daycare director, Cynthia Elizabeth Arellano, pleaded guilty to a cocaine conspiracy for using her home as a drug stash and was sentenced to 45 months in federal prison—she was also ordered to serve 4 years of supervised release—as part of a case that sentenced two accomplices to 36 and 57 months. - ➤ Jury selection began Monday morning in the trial of Billy Delgado—accused of firing up to 14 shots at his ex-wife Erica Torres during a custody exchange in 2024, with his trial set to begin next week. KGNS News
- ➤ Billy Delgado is on trial today in the 111th District Court after being accused of shooting his ex-wife during a custody exchange in 2024—prosecutors presented evidence including his handgun and shell casings while a neighbor said an argument was heard before the shots, with the court set to hear more testimony as the case continues. - ➤ Commissioners Court met at 1000 Houston Street Monday morning—discussing a proposal to allow firework sales on designated holidays and TAMIU internships for psychology students at the Adult Drug Court and Veterans Treatment Program—and reviewed a $500,000 grant proposal to aid peace officers and radio dispatchers. - ➤ Local, state and federal officials gathered on July 28 in south Laredo to mark the start of the State Loop 20 Lomas del Sur overpass project. The $49.5 million project — mostly federally funded — will improve road and pedestrian safety and support future community growth for schools, neighborhoods and a planned sports complex over nearly three years.
