COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Roughly 350 runners and walkers gathered at North Central Park on August 2 to remember overdose victims and raise awareness about drug dangers at Myke’s Purpose 5K Run and health fair. City agencies & nonprofits set up resource booths as a local treatment center noted a sharp drop in overdose deaths this year.  KGNS News
  • Yesterday, families in Laredo enjoyed an end of summer event at Jovita Idar Park where they rode bicycles, took paddleboats, and did catch and release fishing. Park officials said this was the final big event of summer—kids said they feel sad about summer ending but are eager to go back to school.  KGNS News

CRIME NEWS

  • Billy Delgado was found guilty in the 111th District Court for aggravated assault involving a shooting at a Webb County residence and was sentenced to 50 years (to be served at TDCJ).  LaredoBuzz
  • A San Antonio man — Jonathan Ray Balderas — pleaded guilty in February to smuggling ten undocumented migrants from several countries by hiding them in his truck bed on I-35 near mile marker 29 and was sentenced to three years and five months in federal prison with three years of supervised release.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 30, 2025, Assistant Chief Ricardo Gonzalez from the Laredo Police Department reviewed animal call statistics with Laredo Animal Care Services—reporting over 1,000 calls ranging from cruelty to complaints about barking. He said limited training and retention issues have led to more support requests from LACS as both agencies work to improve cooperation through measures like quarterly meetings.  KGNS News
  • Webb County tax assessor will email bills starting next month to cut paper and delivery costs — the program is optional and may help people who move often since notices go to the address on file. Over 180,000 bills are sent each year using the current system.  KGNS News
  • Webb County Tax Office announced it will soon offer electronic billing to help taxpayers manage their payments; officials said the new system is expected to launch in the coming weeks — the change aims to streamline billing for residents.  KGNS News
