ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A motorcycle and pickup truck collided on the 1600 block of Jacaman Road around 8 a.m. Friday, August 8, forcing police to close the road + emergency crews responded as they investigated the crash. KGNS News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Witnesses reported that a heavy law enforcement presence from the Laredo Police Department + Border Patrol was seen near a south Laredo plaza on Friday, August 8 during an apparent raid at an eight-liner business, and police have said they had no further information while Border Patrol has yet to respond. KGNS News
- ➤ The Laredo Sector Border Patrol arrested two Honduran nationals in Houston on August 8 for orchestrating human smuggling operations affecting Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley — one suspect had a record of trafficking and firearms violations while the other was identified as a smuggling coordinator. KGNS News

- ➤ KGNS+ distributed school supplies to local school districts on August 8 to help teachers and students prepare for the new school term. KGNS News
- ➤ Laredo high school students earned community service hours and learned about the judicial system this summer through Judge Beckie Palomo’s Learn and Earn CSH Program from United ISD, Laredo ISD and local charter schools. The 70 students visited courtrooms to watch cases involving aggravated assault trials + sexual crimes against children, which heightened their awareness of community issues. KGNS News

- ➤ During a recent city council meeting, nonprofit representative Max Prado raised concern about reports that city resources backed federal agents during a June 26 ICE raid near Mile Marker 13—he warned that community members feared being detained while Mayor Trevino and Police Chief Rodriguez defended the city’s decision to support federal partners when public safety was at risk. - ➤ The City of Laredo is waiving yard sale permit fees for National Garage Sale Day so residents can host sales without paying fees while following local sign regulations (they must properly dispose of unsold items). The program runs through Sunday to help locals recycle unwanted goods. KGNS News
- ➤ On August 8, Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino and Nuevo Leon Governor Samuel Garcia signed two memorandums to help ease Texas medical shortages. One memorandum allows Nuevo Leon doctors to work in Texas communities while the other enables Green Corridors to lead a rail project that will streamline trade in Laredo. KGNS News
