CRIME NEWS

  • A Laredo woman was found dead from a self-inflicted wound on August 10th; local authorities are investigating the case.  KGNS News
  • At 2:40 a.m. on August 10, Laredo PD responded to a gunshot injury reported at a house on the 1400 block of Los Estribos Drive—the off-duty officer was critically injured and transferred from a local hospital to a facility in San Antonio as investigators probe the case.  KGNS News
  • On Saturday, August 9, at 11 p.m., the Laredo Police Department responded to a call on the 2000 block of E Del Mar Blvd reporting a self-inflicted wound—paramedics confirmed that the 20-year-old woman was dead.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • House Bill 1481 now bans student use of personal communication devices including cell phones, tablets and smartwatches on school property—devices provided by the district are excluded. Laredo Independent School District advises parents to ensure students keep personal devices in their backpacks during school hours.  KGNS News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Laredo Health Department and Laredo Public Library will host a three-part book club series at the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library to mark suicide prevention month, with meetings scheduled for August 21, September 4 and September 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will read I’m Not Broken by Jesse Leon plus join activities like art, meditation and therapy talk while free books are available in limited supply.  KGNS News
