COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Laredo Animal Care Services took custody of 29 dogs voluntarily surrendered by an outside animal welfare agency—12 on Tuesday, 13 on Wednesday, and 4 today. The team will provide shelter, food, and medical care to ensure the animals stay safe and healthy.  LaredoBuzz

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 15—following a yearlong investigation that started when customs found over 200 liters of illegal alcohol at a border crossing—TABC agents with HSI and IRS officials executed a search warrant at a Laredo residence and seized $34,000 in illicit alcoholic beverages suspected to be smuggled from Mexico for wider distribution.  KGNS News
  • Laredo police investigated a late-night shooting at a residence on Aug. 17, 2025—further details are pending.  KGNS News
  • Laredo police arrested two men on Aug. 17 for possessing a controlled substance—officials have not provided further details on the investigation.  KGNS News
  • Laredo Border Patrol agents working with HSI, CBP Air and Marine Operations — and Texas DPS — stopped a human smuggling operation by arresting five undocumented immigrants and charging the driver with harboring them, with the driver facing up to 10 years in prison.  KGNS News

  • The city of Laredo released an update on phase one of a waterline replacement project that began on San Eduardo Avenue and now continues on Logan Avenue plus East Kearney Street; drivers are asked to use caution in the area as officials work to modernize the water system.  KGNS News
  • Today, City Council will discuss renovation plans for El Metro Transit Center—aiming to improve transit services and address infrastructure needs. Officials will review project details and funding proposals during the meeting.  KGNS News
  • A Laredo city council meeting is held today at 5:30 p.m. at the council chambers where officials will discuss a $439,000 public health contract to help people with HIV and AIDS + plans with federal representatives to address a veterinarian shortage. Councilmember Gilbert Gonzalez also proposed that the utilities department study adding fluoride to the city’s drinking water.  KGNS News
  • Laredo Public Health Department announced that food permits will change in September to follow new state rules from Senate Bill 1008 — the department will hold free workshops on Tuesday, August 19 at 3 p.m. and Friday, August 22 at 10 a.m. at the Public Health Auditorium to help food business owners.  KGNS News
