Four days after a Laredo police officer shot Carlos Fernandez during a violent encounter on August 15 + his grieving family protested on August 18 demanding answers and expecting a police update today + the officer remains on administrative leave.
On August 18th, Laredo Border Patrol agents stopped a smuggling attempt at a checkpoint and discovered 15 people believed to be in the country illegally hidden in the cab of a tractor— the U.S. citizen driver now faces felony human smuggling charges.

Yesterday, during a Laredo City Council meeting, members voted to postpone the decision on adding fluoride to the city’s drinking water after hearing residents' concerns — the utilities director said the water naturally contains fluoride near recommended levels and the council will review the issue again soon.

Today the Laredo WIC Program is hosting its Baby Café Tour at Santo Niño Clinic from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. to mark National Breastfeeding Awareness Month—Dietitian Aryana Valdez said the event will support new and expecting mothers with breastfeeding tips, resource booths, yoga sessions, and raffles.

TAMIU Dustdevils will kick off the fall season with a free event at Golondrina Food Truck Park on Saturday, Aug.
