🏘️ Community
A section of the Bartlett Soccer Complex will soon be renamed to honor veteran Roque Vela Sr. (former Laredo ISD board member) who passed last month.
City council approved the change on Aug. 17 and the official date is pending.
Laredo Fire Department and Local 872 will host the 3rd Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Sept.
11 to honor first responders from the 2001 attacks. The free event gives T-shirts to the first 400 pre-registrants and invites military members and families to join.
🎭 Culture
Laredo College will wrap up the LPD’s Frontier to Future exhibit next Friday, Aug.
28 at the Visual Arts Gallery on the Fort McIntosh campus. The exhibit displays historic cases, police technology and a memorial for fallen officers, and it invites locals to donate memorabilia.
🏛️ Government
The Laredo Utilities Department reported that non-flushable items (wipes, socks, and plastic toys) building up at the wastewater treatment plant may block systems if the basket becomes too full.
Residents are urged to dispose of these items properly to keep sewage flowing smoothly in north Laredo.
📰 Pets
LAPS seeks a home for Uma, a four-year-old dog who is healthy, potty trained and friendly with cats.
Adoption events are planned at PetSmart on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. and at the shelter on Aug. 29 and 30.
